The Otter

So my dog is hilarious. Daisy, as we call her, loves the Kong. When she smells something in there she will stop at nothing to get it. Sometimes we hep her, but mostly we make her do the work. Sometimes we throw the Kong for her to chase, but we have learned that throwing the Kong will often allow the treat inside to pop out. Daisy too has noticed this and so she will grab the Kong in her mouth and then hurl it across the room. It is fantastic. But it does not compare to her attempt to harness the power of otters to get the treat. She grabs the Kong with her front paws, rolls on her back and then tries to bite into the Kong. Check it out:

You just can't beat that. Our dog is awesome, and you can't have her!

Guess Who's Back, Back again

So, I have been skipping out on writing for a while now. I know, all you were really sad. But just wanted to let people know I went to the doctor earlier this week. At first I thought he was very nice. We talked about my health issues and we did some tests. We talked about family health history and all the stuff I knew was wrong with me. After a while he told me that he felt that I might have Metabolic Syndrome. "Whoa" That did not sound good. He said that it could lead to heart disease or Diabetes and i thought, this is serious. He told me to go look it up online which I thought was weird. Why didn't he tell me about it? But when I left the Doctor's office I went home and indeed looked up Metabolic Syndrome. A simple Googling of Metabolic syndrome took me to a page from the American Heart Association- fairly reputable. The describe Metabolic Syndrome like this:

The metabolic syndrome is characterized by a group of metabolic risk factors in one person. They include:

  • Abdominal obesity (excessive fat tissue in and around the abdomen)
  • Atherogenic dyslipidemia (blood fat disorders — high triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol and high LDL cholesterol — that foster plaque buildups in artery walls)
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Insulin resistance or glucose intolerance (the body can’t properly use insulin or blood sugar)
  • Prothrombotic state (e.g., high fibrinogen or plasminogen activator inhibitor–1 in the blood)
  • Proinflammatory state (e.g., elevated C-reactive protein in the blood)
Immediately I realized what this meant. My doctor was calling me fat. But he didn't have the guts to do it to my face; he made me find out I was fat through google. What a jerk. Wait I mean he has Micro-niceness Syndrome. Google that one Doc! Though this should have been clear when he wrote me a prescription for 1) 10 mg Lipitor and 2)No more fast food. I am not joking. I hadn't eaten all morning, and had actually planned my appointment so that when I was done I could swing by the drive-thru to get lunch. Doctors used to say "take two of the and call me in the morning." Now doctors say "Hey tubby, quit eating fries and double cheeseburgers." Well anyways I got a call from the Doc today and my cholesterol is 165 the goal is to be under 200. I really feel like celebrating the good news with a combo meal from Wendy's.
